There are things we must do and not do to protect ourselves against complaints from clients. Remember, you may be 100% comfortable with the human body having been a trainer for so long. But that doesn’t mean that your clients are just as comfortable. We need to be very aware of what we say to clients and how we touch them, if at all.
- Never go with a client into the Chill N Out or SD Botox area or offer to assist them with any treatments back there. That is not our business and we are not trained to help anyone with that equipment. Not even to supervise. If the client goes back there, wait for them to come back out – don’t go back there to wait for them.
- If a client of SD Botox or Chill N Out has a question or problem, refer them back to THAT business. Do not try to handle it or “check them out.” Nothing. Just refer back.
- Never go with a client into the locker room or restroom or anywhere else that other people can’t see you.
- Never ask about or mention a client’s breast implants. That is inappropriate. Never ask about anything related to their body except, “Do you have any injuries I should know about or work around.” No other questions about their body.
- Never offer to examine anyone’s body for any reason. We are not physicians or physical therapists.
- Never ask a client to take off or pull up or down any part of their clothing. If you can’t see it with their clothing in place, then you don’t need to see it.
- Always be mindful especially with women about where you are touching them. A male trainer should not touch a female client unless he absolutely has to. Just show them what to do, or point at yourself, or YOU demonstrate the thing you want done and then let them do it. A female trainer with a male client should also avoid touching the client. Best rule is for all trainers to avoid touching any of our clients at any time except to shake hands if the client offers his hand first.
- Never videotape or film a client. If the client wants the set to be filmed, use their own video on their own phone. We do not video using our phones.
- Do not offer to stretch anyone. We are not in that business. You can verbally describe or visually demonstrate how to stretch a body part but we don’t do it on them.
- When you are speaking to our clients about training, do not go with them past the office door or down the hallway. Speak to them only in our office or the gym. Only go part way down the hallway to direct them to the restrooms or to Chill N Out, but do not accompany them down the hallway.
It’s unfortunate that people are sometimes prone to imaginings and complaints, so we want to avoid giving them any cause as much as possible.
