Perfume & Cologne

A lot of people are sensitive to perfumes, colognes, and aftershave.  Some people are allergic to these chemicals and have allergic reactions.  Some get headaches or find the smell nauseating or at least irritating to eyes and nose.

Any quantity of perfume or cologne can have this effect, not just strong ones or a lot of one kind.  Even a very faint perfume smell can be offensive, and often the person wearing it can’t smell it, and can’t tell whether he or she is wearing a lot or hardly any at all.

Any of our clients might also be sensitive to smells, and they could easily be turned off by an employee’s scent and not want to do business with us.  I’ve been in stores that I couldn’t wait to leave because someone’s cologne was overpowering. We cannot afford to lose clients because they don’t want to breathe someone’s cologne while working out.

For the good of all of us, it is company policy to prohibit wearing any perfume, cologne, or aftershave while at work.  Also, please avoid using strongly perfumed lotions, soaps, or deodorants.  Most brands are fine but a few smell just as strong as if you are wearing perfume.
